awareness among business entrepreneurs and consumers about the adverse human health impacts of lead-based decorative paints, particularly on the health of children under six years old   The research was done in collboration with the Centre for Environmental Justice. The findings shows that water consume by the majority people in the affected area does not meet the potable water standards especially the water from the tube wells and the dug wells. Hon. Minister Dinesh Gunawardana participated this occation and the event was organised by the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage.
Sri Lanka CSO Statement on RIO+20 issued   Environmental Day 2012 in Hungama in Hambantota
12th June 2012, Colombo. Sri Lankan Civil Society Organisation today issues the CSO Statment on Rio+20 perpared through a dialogue held on 17-18th May 2012 in Negombo, Sri Lanka. Over 40 CSO groups participated the dialogue and the Statement was signed by over 60   6th June 2012, Colombo. A peoples' Tribunal at Hambegamuwa   CEJ go to courts on Soragune Golf course
22nd Feb 2012, Colombo- A Peoples' Tribunal was held in Hambegamuwa Temple on the 24th February, 2012 to dicuss the proposed Soragune Golf Course.The Trbunal completely rejected the proposal to destroy the Weli Oya project for a Golf Course.   21st February 2012, Colombo- Today Court of Appeal issued notice on the case filed by the CEJ on the construction of a hotel and Golf Course in Soragune in Haldummulla area. The proposed project will destroy 623 acres forest land belongs to Soragune Kuda Kataragama Devalaya,
    the catchment of Welioya water diversion.
Arsenic in pesticides- Court of Appeal Issued Notice   Climate Symposium calls to set up a Climate Commission
Colombo, 05 th August 2011- Today court of appeal issues notice to the Registrar of Pesticides and other respondents considering the case filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) regarding the Arsenic in Pesticides.   Climate Symposium held today(18th November 2010) in Colombo calls His Excellency the President to set up a Climate Commission to bring multi stakeholder approach to fight climate impacts, engage in adaptation and achieve climate justice.
Counsel Mr. Ravindranath Dabare submitted that there were no actions taken by the Registrar of Pesticides to bring the violators to the legal process although ROP accepted that they found 9 pesticides with significant amount of Arsenic. No Arsenic can constitute in the Pesticides according to the regulations under the Pesticides Act.   They also calls Sri Lanka Delegation to the Climate Negotiations to play an active role. The symposium was organised by the Centre for Environmental Justice/Friends of the Earth Sri Lanka and the Practical Action( Sri Lanka. India, Bangladesh Programme).
