Year 2022 was an economically challenging period for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was facing a severe shortage of essential goods due to lack of dollar reserves. Food inflation touched 80 % during the second half of 2022. Continued protests during the first half of 2022 ended when President Gotabhaya fled the country and later announced his resignation. Then Ranil Wickramsinghe was sworn in as president. After his appointment the country gained some stability as he was able to provide essential goods and electricity. Several changes in the government administration including appointment of a new cabinet. There were many calls from different political parties for an election.But this was blocked by the government. There was a strong demand from the public that all 225 parliamentarians should resign. Finally Sri Lanka agreed with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) for a bailout plan.
