It is a great honor to convey this message on behalf of the Centre for Environmental Justice. As a leader in environmental protection, the Centre for Environmental Justice has launched numerous projects to raise awareness among the public, children, youth, and politicians about the threats facing our environment. We are committed to educating the public on the importance of environmental justice and protecting our precious natural heritage for present and future generations.
Our conviction is steadfast: justice for humanity is incomplete without justice for all living entities. We are united in amplifying awareness about the critical importance of conserving our environment and ensuring lasting environmental equity. Driven by the dedication and foresight of our directors and staff, the Centre for Environmental Justice has achieved significant advancements. We have also strengthened our environmental litigation efforts, reflecting our unwavering advocacy. Our commitment is evident in our request to the Supreme Court to hear the fundamental rights petition concerning the MV X-Press Pearl maritime disaster, which was granted. Additionally, we have taken legal actions against forest encroachments and illegal clearings in various reserves.
This year, we achieved a significant legal victory with the Court of Appeal’s historic judgment on May 31, 2024. The court ruled in favor of our challenge against Gazette Extraordinary No. 2241/41 and its regulations regarding the registration of tamed elephants. This pivotal judgment upheld the rule of law by preventing the illegal release of elephants to unregistered owners, marking a major milestone in our environmental justice efforts.
We believe that conservation is ultimately about people. Destroying our environment means destroying ourselves. Habitat degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate disruptions are accelerating, harming the natural world and our future.
Reflecting on our achievements, we celebrate our progress and the fulfillment of our goals. The road ahead promises further accomplishments, supported by benefactors who recognize our capacity and commitment to nature conservation. My heartfelt gratitude goes to them.
Your steadfast support and encouragement are a profound blessing. It is through your continued patronage that we achieve our noble objectives.
With sincere appreciation, Dr. Ravindranath Dabare
