The South Asian Environmental Law Report (SAELR) Vol 2 is continuation of the success of the the South Asian Environmental Law Report Vol.1 which is the collaborative product of the Centre for Environmental Law and Policy (CELP) of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ).This volume is an assemblage of prominent landmark judgements and case review analysis from Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries including India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The main objective of this publication is to work as a forum which provides an insightful discussion on the vital role played by judiciary to breathe new life into existing documents and treaties on environmental justice through pragmatic judicial interpretation, implementation and necessary amendments. Therefore, SAELR Volume 2 is unique from other compilations as it would be not only to focus on sensitising and empowering people on environmental decision making but also to strengthen environmental justice and sustainable growth, provide various cross-cutting options to address the emerging challenges and encourage judicial activism. This historic document will be of great use for researchers, academics, students, legal practitioners, judges and the general public to understand their core environmental value systems and look back and evaluate the compromises one made towards the environment.
